Veronica Torres Veronica Torres finds that flamenco is a vital emotional outlet, allowing her to discover new emotions and reconnect with those from her past. She has a deep respect for the art form, explaining, "Flamenco is not a performance, but an experience." She enjoys the joyful grace of the Alegrias as well as the sharp, almost masculine and slicing characteristics of many other flamenco palos. Veronica, a native New Mexican, began dancing at Sandra's School of Dance at age 16, studying jazz, hip-hop and ballet. While attending UNM from 1992 – 1997 on a partial dance scholarship, she studied under Eva Encinias-Sandoval, Bill Evans, Virginia Wilmerding and Jennifer Predock-Linnel. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Master's degree in Secondary Education and currently teaches sixth grade Social Studies. She has studied flamenco with Farruquita, Laura Manzella, Eva La Yerbabuena, Mercedes Amaya and Alejandro Granados. From 1997 – 2001, Veronica studied and performed with Alma Flamenca under director Eva Encinias-Sandoval. With Alma Flamenca, she traveled to Washington D.C. to perform in the Celebration of States. As a member of the National Institute of Flamenco (NIF), Veronica has studied with Eva Encinias-Sandoval, Joaquin Encinias, Marisol Encinias and Omayra Amaya. She has taught children's and introductory level classes at NIF and is an apprentice dancer with the American Flamenco Repertory Company, "Yjastros," directed by Joaquin Encinias.
